The Majestic Theatre and the Friends of Plum Island, a committee of the Illinois Audubon Society, announced today that a benefit concert "Eagle Fest" will be held on Oct. 19th and 20th, 2002, at the Majestic Theatre in Streator, IL.

The two day event "Eagle Fest" is being held to raise awareness and funds to save Plum Island near Starved Rock State Park, a wintering bald eagle habitat, from commercial development

"Plum Island currently has no legal protection even though it is well known for the large numbers of bald eagles which call the island home during the winter months", said Friends of Plum Island chairperson Don Goerne of rural Streator.

"Plum Island is also known for its Native American village and burial site. The waters surrounding the island are prime spawning areas for walleye and sauger, and it is a significant part of the scenic view from the majestic bluffs of Starved Rock, a main attraction of the state park," added Goerne.

"We are very excited to have the support of the Majestic Theatre and the participation of some wonderful artists who are helping to make this a very special event", stated Goerne.

"While we are not able to fully release the line up of artists for publication at this time" said Katie Troccoli, spokesperson for the Majestic Theatre. "We can tell you this will be an event to remember!" Those artists who's names we can release include John Condron of Joliet, Steve Sharp of Ottawa, Gabriel Lee of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Remedy of Chicago, IL., and Great Plains Gypsies of Chicago, IL.
