Digital projection is being pushed heavy by Hollywood because there is very considerable savings for the film companies to not produce film. However, they are not paying for the expensive digital equipment that is consistently outdated and the standards for this equipment that they have set is not even attainable by the industry yet.
Many people including us at the Majestic feel that the quality of digital projection is lower than with 35mm film. For example, Steven Spielberg attempted to keep his recent Indiana Jones film from being shown in theatres with digital projection and was quoted in the Chicago Tribune as saying, ”projecting it digitally is a very inferior image”.
To us, it is very annoying to watch a movie wearing special glasses. Many theatres are also charging a premium price for seeing a movie in 3-D. Since Hollywood has the capabilities to provide 3-D in 35mm film format as well, we feel that this is just a gimmick for them to try to force theatre owners to convert to the lower quality systems for their economical gains.
Therefore, we are proud to say that we are projecting Bolt in higher quality 35mm 2-D for a lower cost to you the movie-goer. However, if you feel that this is an inconvenience to you, we apologize for that.
